Tucked away in a rural side of Melaka tengah, SK Bukit Lintang is a walking proof that a public school can excel in the Eco-Schools programme through a collaborative effort from students, teachers, parents and community.
Having been with the school only for a year and half, the headmistress Pn Jamilah Ishak’s dedication to the programme can be sensed through out the school’s surrounding.
It hosts more than 45 species of plants and a number of gardens used to engage students in a variety of subjects, from studying the water cycle in earth science to learning the origins of plant names in language arts to discovering hands-on how plants reproduce, grow, and interact with the environment in biology.
The school’s Eco-Committee student leader, Muhd Wafiy Afzah mentioned that the programme has helped him understand more about environmental conservation and its important to the current and future generations.
