Our work is getting tougher as each day people are throwing animals over our fence. Never a day, our shelter staff can rest and do our their jobs peecefully. Everyday before they go to shelter, they pray that everything is smooth, but their prayers are never answered, because we still have ‘illiterate’ society that happily dumping their pets, be it near our animal shelter or streets.
Some people surrender animals because they think it’s the only possible solution, but it is NOT a solution. Many people don’t know about the importance of advance planning for their animal family, and so their animal companions end up in the shelter/streets.
People often cite these excuses:-
“Moving out of state and cannot take cat.”
“New landlord does not allow dogs.”
“Found cat in apartment next door after neighbor moved out.”
“No space in new home for dog.”
“Dog is aggressive, we can’t handle it.”
“My dog gave birth, and we couldn’t afford to take care of her pups.”
“My dog is aggressive and we cage it most of the time.”
Most of these excuses can be corrected, but people may be lack the knowledge, commitment or even stubborn/refuse to understand.
We (you and me) need to educate everyone in our society that it is NOT right to abandon animals.
