Cities drive our economy and our democracies. The world’s most powerful cities outrank entire nations in terms of GDP. This is why mayors have become increasingly powerful in the last decade.

Since 70 % of CO2 emissions originate from cities, and 75 % of resources are consumed there, cities are simply the place where local action leads to global effects.

WWF’s work with cities has therefore intensified in recent years. We challenge cities to lead on sustainability through our One Planet City Challenge, and work with them to deliver on the Paris Agreement.

The We Love Cities initiative is where we showcase 50 cities that have shown a strong will to transition towards sustainability, and encourage you to be a part of the change: welovecities.org
