For indigenous peoples, a pristine environment means more than just having clean air to breathe and water to drink. An unspoiled environment can fulfill their rights to ensure the survival of their culture, traditions and well-being.
‘Malaysia is recognised as one of the top twelve countries in the world for megabiodiversity. We are blessed with tropical rainforest, mangroves, peatland, and montane forests. While development is meant to increase our standards of living and grow our economy, unsustainable development inadvertently destroys the environment. We call on all political parties to inform voters of your aspirations and plans for sustainable development in Malaysia, allow voters to make informed decisions with their votes’ – GE14 Open Letter to the presidents of all political parties in Malaysia.
Help make environment an issue you can vote on – ask your local politicians how they will tackle the issue!
