“My initial years in WWF-Malaysia were rather challenging for me. As a fresh young officer just out of university with very little knowledge on conservation, I experienced a series of rejections carrying out my duties in those days.
However, I used the negative experiences as motivation to improve myself. I developed trust and confidence, and learned patience.
I also learned how to master my emotions and not be discouraged with other people’s opinions or comments. But most of all, I continuously reminded myself why I chose to work with the community – I’ve always had a keen interest in people and culture.
Hence, relying on my passion, I strived and pushed forward to get to where I am now. I constantly use this quote by Joshua Graham as an inspiration, “I survived because the fire inside me burned brighter than the fire around me.”– Umi A’Zuhrah binti Abdul Rahman, Senior Community Engagement & Education Officer.
