WWF-Malaysia Statement on the Tapir death in Hulu Langat.

We are both extremely saddened and horrified at the number of wildlife deaths as a result of human negligence this year. As an organisation dedicated to the conservation of biological diversity, a huge amount of our time is committed to empowering and encouraging positive change in the way we protect our planet – wildlife included.

In the wake of the recent death of the adult male tapir, it is indeed comforting to see so many Malaysians outraged over ill treatment and brutality towards animals and the environment. Please know that WWF-Malaysia is equally outraged and appalled at this act, and strongly condemns any sort of violence against wildlife.

When confronted with such incidences, it is crucial to remember that the animal is in distress and most likely disoriented. Thus, trying to save it without adequate or relevant expertise may only end up endangering it even further, as we have seen with this unfortunate case.

WWF-Malaysia echoes the call of PERHILITAN when it comes to protecting our wildlife. Please remember to immediately call or report incidences to PERHILITAN to seek wildlife rescue assistance (PERHILTAN Hotline : 1 800 88 5151).
