Local dogs are often the dogs potential pet owners shy away. But being an owner of a handsome local dog named YangYang, I can personally attest to his sweet and loyal disposition.

As a rescue, YangYang was initially afraid of people and simple household items such as a broom stick. When I fostered him from Sarawak SPCA animal shelter, I learned that he and his 2sibblings were abused by his previous owner and left for ‘dead’ at the shoplots nearby shelter. Sucked in by his beautiful paws, I could not leave him at shelter, but to foster him in the hope of him being adopted.

I regretted my decision on fostering YangYang, as I started to fall in love with him. YangYang started to show progress in believing in me, and mix well with my other kid, BoyBoy. A joy to see both of them adapt to each other.

Having a dog from a shelter taught me how to be nurturing. YangYang was suffering from mange, a skin disease.

But after getting to know him, it was he who taught me strength, patience and kindness.

It was a month and it was time to get him onto adoption. I refused to put him up for adoption, and I told the shelter that YangYang was dognapped by me.

He is healthy and eating well, and everyone who comes into contact with him instantly falls in love. Every dog deserves the right amount of love, care and attention, especially the ones that are often mistreated.

Visit the Sarawak SPCA animal shelter today. Who knows? You may end up living with your best friend.
