Rosies First Home Subcut (Day 25)
The senior vet we consulted has recommended that Rosie gets a 150ml subcut daily (on one side) and after one week, we would do a blood test to see if the bilirubin level drops.
Rosie is still very, very yellow and that’s worrying.
So, we administered the subcut today, as per the vet’s instructions and guidance.
We decided to use the kitchen so that we could hang up the drip set. The higher it is, the faster the speed of the drip.
Tabs was really curious.
I got the hibiscrub, the povidone iodine, and the alcohol swabs.
Change a new needle – every time.
I got two medium and two big needles. The vet said the big needle would take only about 2-3 minutes – it’s fast and in a way, less stress for the animal. The only pain would be during the needle poke. We didn’t dare use the big needle as it’s our very first time. Perhaps if we have a bit more experience with it, we shall try the bigger needle.
Drip set hung up and all ready.
Bunny: Can I come in, can I come in, I want to see….
Bunny actually cannot see much, he’s almost blind, but he sure knows what is going on.
Rosie really likes this litter box, so we figure it’s best to use this.
Mr Cow Mau.
With everything prepared, it’s time to bring Rosie down from upstairs.
Here comes our girl…
Hibiscrub first, then povidone iodine and lastly the alcohol swab.

Now, in goes the needle – the trick is to pull up the skin and insert the needle just below the skin (subcutaneous). Only half the needle needs to be in.
Very important – we must not touch the metal part of the needle. Hold only the plastic part.
It’s in!
We’ve put a marking on the bottle so that we know when to stop the drip.
With the medium-sized needle, it took about 5-6 minutes to drip 150ml of fluids.
That’s it. We’re done. Hooray!
Peek-a-boo!
Rosie liked the litter box so much she took a nap in it after the procedure!
It’s daily subcut now.
I don’t know when I would have the courage to do the poking. Not yet. I’ll do everything except the poking of the needle!
