Rosie (Day 23 A Fright)

Since yesterday, I’ve noticed abdominal bloating in Rosie.

Today, it seems even bigger and she looked miserable the whole day, just lying down, changing places now and then.

She has not appetite, but when force-fed, she will willing to eat. She doesn’t need liquid food because she is willing to chew now.

By afternoon, I got really worried so I texted her vet about the bloated abdomen. At the back of my mind, I was very worried it might be FIP (fluid retention). The vet advised me to take Rosie asap to the nearest vet.

So, we rushed there.
(Rosie has three vets, in three different locations.)

The vet observed Rosie and showed me how to take note of her breathing. Rosie’s breathing was normal. Then, Rosie was quite active at the vet’s – she even walked out of the room! The vet said the “bloatedness” is at the centre and not towards the back, which probably means it is not fluids. A cat’s body is slanted and if there are fluids, gravity would cause the swelling to be further down.

So the vet surmised that it is probably Rosie’s enlarged liver.

When he palpated, he confirmed that it is not fluids. Her liver is just very big.

That was a relief.

The enlarged liver (larger than before) could also be caused by the steroids and this would be correct because we increased the dosage on Saturday and I noticed a significant enlargement of the abdomen on Sunday itself.

Tomorrow, I have made an appointment for Rosie to get an ultrasound.

So, we came home. Relieved.

The only reason Daffodil is so near is because she wants to eat food that is meant for Rosie.

After that, Daffodil hissed at Rosie. Sigh.
