A Day Of Orders And Sewing!
Would you believe it?
Guess how many bag orders we received?
We’ve sold four already (earlier on).
And as it stands now, we have 44 more orders!
Yes, 44 pieces more, so in total, it’s 48 foldable bags all together!
Hurray for foldable bags, hurray for #BebasPlastik and thank you everyone who is helping us spread the word!
Today has been a day of sewing for me. I sewed 9 bags today.
One of our orders is for 24 large bags (18 in by 22 in), from Jessy Kek. So I started with this today. In any case, it’s first-come-first-served. Jessy also got orders from her family members, so we have a total of 30 bags from Jessy (24 big ones, 2 medium-sized and 4 small ones (sewn by Jennifer))!
This is the first 18 by 22 bag!
Jessy says she and her family members need these large bags for groceries and laundry. Initially, Jessy wanted 20 in by 24 in, but that’s way too big!
The pink beach cloth is donated by Ms Ooi. The stripes and Minnie Mouse are from my mum.
For these huge bags, we have to use cotton.
Now, for the small bags.
This is Agnes’ order and she wanted 13 by 15 (vertical orientation).
Batik, Songket and Sarong is never out of fashion.
Very Malaysian!
Agnes is giving a donation of RM40 for these two bags!
By the way, all the batik-songket cloth whose photos I published yesterday have been booked by my ex-schoolmates! I’ll be sewing those soon. Thank you very much, Soo Ming, Rhoda and Yvonne!
And below is a 15 by 18 bag, from Jessy’s order:
I’m getting the hang of sewing these bags now, so it should get easier as we go along.
It takes me about an hour to sew a bag, which is about the same time needed to sew an owl, actually. I can sometimes complete a blanket in two hours (for the simpler designs). We raise RM60 for an owl and RM160 for a blanket. For the applique canvas bags that my mum sews, we raise RM60 each. And now, only RM17.50 for a foldable bag…hmm…I hadn’t expected so much work to be involved in sewing a bag! I had mistakenly thought that it would be “easy” to sew something so lightweight. I was wrong! It takes an hour to sew just one bag, with the French seam and precision involved in making the base…
So, in order to raise more funds for the animals, we hope you don’t mind that effective tomorrow (for new orders received from tomorrow onwards), the bags will be RM20 each (by donation, inclusive of postage to Peninsular Malaysia). It’s just an increase of RM2.50 per bag, but when added up, it means more money for the animals. This price is for a maximum size of 15 in by 18 in. For larger bags, the price will be higher.
Thank you very much for your kind support!
