MEET DESSERT, THE LEOPARD GECKO

Dessert, a leopard gecko, was found along with two other geckos at rubbish dump outside a fish farm. His two companions were very skinny and frail. All are victims of the illegal exotic pet trade and reckless abandonment by their owner/s.

The geckos had been left in a bag beside the bin, and thankfully a member of public found the bag and passed them to us.

Unfortunately, the two weaker geckos were in appalling physical condition and had very poor appetites. We did all we could to help them, but sadly one died shortly after rescue and another died a few days later. However, against the odds Dessert has survived, and appears to coping well and is eating well.

We will never know who abandoned these animals or why, but what we do know is that they were illegally smuggled into Singapore or illegally bred here. Countless animals suffer and die as a result of the illegal exotic pet trade, either from cruel smuggling methods, improper care, or abandonment.

In Singapore it is illegal to keep most wild animals as pets. If someone you know wants to buy an exotic pet, please explain to them that the illegal exotic pet trade is cruel and that thousands of animals suffer and die because of it.
