Why Do Children Do Such Things?

As you know, Mr Zurik follows me to the playground daily when I go there to do my exercise.
This morning, I was a little late as I was coping with trying to get Vincent to eat. When I finally got Vincent to eat, I was already quite exhausted but I still didn’t want to miss the day’s exercise.
So I got out of my gate and saw that Mr Zurik was standing in the middle of the road. A stick came flying at Mr Zurik and he avoided it. I looked up and there was a young boy in the playground. I then saw him throw another stick aiming at the middle of the road where Mr Zurik was standing. The stick flew past a tree and landed near Mr Zurik.
I’m already not exactly in the best of moods this morning.
So I went towards Mr Zurik, picked him up and went up to the playground to confront the boy.
He saw me with Mr Zurik and he gave a sheepish smile.
I asked him, “Why did you throw a stick at this cat?”
Without even batting an eyelid or hesitating, he said, confidently, “I was throwing at the tree, I didn’t know it would hit the cat. I wasn’t throwing at the cat.”
Yes indeed, like I was born yesterday. I’m 98% sure he was lying. 2% – benefit of the doubt that he is so bored that he is throwing sticks at a tree and the sticks just happened to land on Mr Zurik.
His father and a younger brother were nearby and from what I could see, he was supposed to be playing ball with the younger brother.
Our earth is indeed doomed if children these days can lie so confidently.
What makes a young child throw sticks at a harmless cat?
Are humans born with a need to bully, to harm and to lie?
I know young children are known to have done even worse and horrendous crimes against innocent animals and throwing a stick is nothing compared to those horrible things that children do.
As a child, I have never ever had the urge to bully, let alone harm an animal, especially animals who are smaller than me.
What’s wrong with children nowadays? Did they learn it from the environment, from adults, from the television or video games, or are they born with the propensity to hurt and bully others?
What bothers me the most is the lying. The dishonesty. Is it so difficult to just say, “I’m sorry I threw sticks at the cat.” Until and unless a person admits he has done wrong, remedial behaviour cannot take place.
Our earth is pretty much doomed.
