Like the thousands before them, Kunkush the cat’s story begins with him and his family fleeing their home in Iraq to travel to Turkey to cross the Aegean Sea to Greece in a small rubber boat.

But when they arrived in Lesbos, the white Turkish Van cat was separated from his family and had to fend for himself on the streets.

With the help of some aid volunteers, Kunkush was able to survive in the streets.

Kunkush eventually found his way to Berlin where he was fostered by good-hearted people while volunteers started a social media campaign and a GoFundMe page to try to find his family.

On February 12, volunteers found Kunkush’s family in Norway.

The cat flew 2,000 miles from Germany to Norway to finally be reunited with family.

Do watch both videos and be deeply touched by the kind people who made this possible. Watch the reunion too (it is very touching)! There are no sad parts, just pure happiness.

Kindness certainly goes a long way…literally!

Talking about cats who find their way home, I just heard another amazing story yesterday and this is almost from my own backyard, sort of.

My friend, Amy, who owns a pet store nearby feeds a black cat who frequents the shop. The other day, she enlisted the help of a friend to take the cat to a vet in USJ Taipan for the cat to be neutered.

Unfortunately, the door of the carrier broke when the cat was being transported out of the car at the vet’s and the cat escaped into a drain. Attempts were made to catch the cat and Amy’s brother also went there to help, but the cat remained inside the drain. The vet assistant fed the cat daily, but the cat could not be caught.

Days later, just when Amy was looking at a similar carrier in her shop and thinking about this black cat, she heard scratching at her door.

The black cat had come back!!!

All the way from USJ Taipan to SS18, and this involves quite a distance and crossing dangerous main roads.

And the cat didn’t seem any worse in appearance or health!

So, yes, animals have an in-built GPS which sometimes works wonders, but still….let’s not take the chance!
