Why Daffodil Was offended

Yesterday, we had relatives over for Chinese New Year and they brought their pet poodle to visit! We had to close the doors so that the poodle would be safe in the house.

Since he was a very friendly, trusting and youthful dog, my husband thought it would be safer for the poodle that our PatioCats be out in the patio. He was worried that the trusting dog might get scratched by any of the PatioCats if he approaches them, being the friendly dog that he was.

But Daffodil stood her ground in the house. She refused to leave.

After all, hasn’t she worked so hard to find a stronghold, a home, where she felt safe in?

She decided she would hold the fort for everyone.

Despite having seven “strangers” in the house plus one friendly poodle (who was about Ginger’s size and height), Daffodil refused to budge. The rest of the cats had gone out to the patio already.

When the younger relatives went into Bunny’s Place to play with the cats, the cats went to hide. And Cleo and Indy remained hiding under the sofa until the guests left! Tabs was at her rain shelter (behind the door), Cow was in his wigwam, Bunny in his tunnel, Tiger was hiding as well while Pole was high on a shelf.

After our guests left, Daffodil made it very clear to us that she had been, well….offended.

Here’s what Daffodil thought: Why would my humans think I would scratch or hurt any other animal? Why was I asked to leave my home and go outside to the patio? Why was this even necessary? Why weren’t I given the benefit of the doubt that I would be a gracious host to the poodle?  I am, after all, a 16-year old cat….don’t keep telling everyone this and then, don’t accord me the respect that I deserve.  Hmmmph!

Her “silent treatment” went on for a few hours until evening. It was so obvious…that she was offended.

I am not happy.

I am sitting on your table to let you know that. And giving you a nasty look too…

The matriarch has spoken.

The humans have apologised profusely…
