MEET JESSICA REEVES, OUR DEDICATED WILDLIFE GUARDIAN WHO JOIN OUR WORK ALMOST EVERY SUNDAY SINCE 2013!

1. How did you get involved with ACRES?

- I knew about the work that ACRES did already, and have been a volunteer working with all sorts of animals over many years, but have never worked with reptiles I am English & lived 10 years in Holland, and the import of reptiles into Europe is, fortunately, extremely restricted (though sadly Europe also has an illegal trade in wild animals). It appealed to me then to learn something about reptiles, while at the same time helping animals who have truly suffered, and deserve our love and care to rebuild their health and happiness.

2. What experience have you gained so far?

- Apart from the learning the fundamentals of reptile care what the animals eat, how they live, how they interact with each other. The best part is learning about their personalities, which many people dont seem to believe that reptiles have!

I am lucky to have joined ACRES before the sanctuary was built, so was not only able to contribute to the construction (very messy, very, very wet!), but also to see the difference in the animals after they were moved to the great outdoors.

I have also learned to truly appreciate the benefits of having litter-trained animals in my home

3. What message or advice would give to your peers who share the same passion as you to make a difference for animals?

- Volunteering with animals is rarely glamorous, and you need to be prepared to be hands-on, and hands-dirty! It is a real joy though to see our animals, happy and healthy, munching their way contentedly through life, and to know that you are a part of their happiness. A day in the office just does not come close!
