AN INTERVIEW WITH OUR TUESDAY RESCUE VOLUNTEER HERO – LEOPOLDO SORIANO JR. (LEO)

Leo has been volunteering as a wildlife rescuer every Tuesday since 2013. Today, we’d like to share his journey and stories to inspire more people!

1. How did you get involved with ACRES?

- I got involved with ACRES through searching online for volunteer organisations in Singapore. I wanted to volunteer with charities that deal with helping animals and/or helping under-privileged people. So I decided to sign up with ACRES in the animal rescue programme and go through the training session. After that, I liked what the organisation stood for and decided to keep on volunteering for ACRES on a weekly basis.

2. What experience have you gained so far?

- I’ve gained plenty of experience! I had only been in Singapore for a year before I started volunteering. Now I am more familiar with the city and with the local people as well. I had never dealt with any animals before (besides my dog), so through some extensive training and lots of learning about the local wildlife, I’ve become more confident in handling wildlife and have gained skills in learning how to care for injured or sick wild animals.

3. What message or advice would give to your peers who share the same passion as you to make a difference for animals?

- The message I would give my peers is to remember the reason why you volunteer for ACRES. We all have the same common passion, which is to help the animals and be their voice while educating the public at the same time. Teach people not to be afraid of wild animals, and let them know that we all should be able to live together harmoniously.
