LACING UP, SAVING LIVES: STANDARD CHARTERED MARATHON 2015
There is a lot of parallel between the struggle to finish a full marathon and the struggle of Singapores native wildlife to survive in an increasingly urbanised environment. Running 42km is no easy feat, but ACRES staff member Sabrina will be representing ACRES in the Standard Chartered Marathon 2015, raising funds for our efforts to end animal cruelty and protect Singapores wildlife.
One animal that we are helping is the long-tailed macaque. In land-scare Singapore, the natural habitat of these animals is constantly shrinking. As a result, macaques may end up with no option but to use urban areas as corridors to move to a new area, potentially putting them into conflict with humans. Some are injured in collisions with vehicles on the roads, often fatally.
Here at ACRES, we believe that education and modern management is the way forward towards achieving peaceful coexistence between humans and macaques. We need funds to run educational projects and campaigns about macaques. Our ongoing rescue and rehabilitation work for injured macaques also needs funding, so that we can save the lives of these special monkeys and return them to the wild.
Join our efforts to save and protect Singapores long-tailed macaques. Sabrina is aiming to raise $5000 by running the marathon. Please help to make this happen!
