Another One Bites The Dust: Finnish Dolphinarium Closes

FINLANDS ONLY DOLPHINARIUM SHUTS DOWN AFTER 29 YEARS
This one goes out to Viivi Senghore, who began campaigning to shed light on the plight of captive dolphins at Srknniemi Adventure Park after it opened in 1985. The efforts made to put an end to this cruelty spanned 29 long years and involved a passionate group of people with sheer determination. The remaining 4 dolphins will now retire at the Blue Dolphin Freedom Centre; no longer exploited for entertainment purposes.
We applaud the Board of Directors for making this decision to shut down the dolphinarium. They could have chosen to not do anything and to avoid the hassle of the closure. Yet, they decided to set things right, which may not have been the easiest choice, but definitely was the right thing to do. That is admirable. Ville Niinist, the countrys Environment Minister in 2014, saw that keeping dolphins in captivity was problematic and called for the closure of the facility.
We kindly encourage you to realise what it really means to purchase a ticket to a dolphinarium: that you are supporting the cruel confinement and suffering of these wide-ranging animals in captivity. Your simple action of not visiting a dolpinarium, or any facility that houses captive dolphins, makes a big difference.
We are confident that, one day, the confinement of all dolphins in captivity will be a thing of the past.
