LETS RE-VISIT AN ENRICHMENT VIDEO FEATURING GREEN IGUANA, VALERIE
When Valerie was first rescued (a victim of the illegal exotic pet trade and abandonment), she was extremely weak. Her initial prognosis was poor and her chances of survival were low. Her condition deteriorated even further and she wasnt eating well.
She was on medication and under close observation. We learned that Valerie loved her flowers, so provided lots for her to eat. Somehow, she pulled through, and Valerie is now the largest female iguana at the ACRES Wildlife Rescue Centre (AWRC)! She is fit and strong and wont hesitate to give you a whip of her tail if you get too close to her.
When Valerie showed signs of recovery and was becoming stronger, we set up this quick enrichment as an afternoon project. We wanted to test her ability to balance. We hoped it provided her with a bit of interest and a challenge as she munched on her favorite flowers.
This enrichment was not only beneficial for Valerie, but also for us – as a platform to experiment. In future, we can expand this idea to a bigger scale, with the whole enclosure like this.
