JULY 29th: INTERNATIONAL TIGER DAY
The 29th of July is a day dedicated to celebrating the existence of tigers and to spread awareness on their endangered status.
Here are some shocking facts about tigers:
1.Today, there are more tigers in captivity than in the wild.
2.Only around 3,200 tigers are believed to be left in the wild.
3.Demand for tiger parts is driving the poaching activities which are driving tigers towards extinction.
4.Habitat loss is another major threat to tigers.
We know that to prevent further declines in tiger populations, urgent action is needed.
ACRES has been doing our bit in the battle to save the worlds remaining tigers. Our recent undercover investigation into the illegal trade in tiger parts in Singapore found fewer shops to be involved in the illegal trading of tiger parts compared to our 2010 investigation. We continue to work towards wiping out the illegal trade in tiger parts in Singapore completely.
