Parliament Passes Animal Welfare Bill - The Malaysian Insider

MALAYSIA: ANIMAL WELFARE BILL PASSED BY PARLIAMENT

Fantastic news from Malaysia!

The Animal Welfare Bill 2015 was passed by the Dewan Rakyat last week, paving the way for harsher punishments for animal abusers.

If convicted, abusers can face a fine between RM20,000 and RM100,000 and a jail sentence of not more than three years.

The Bill will now have to be passed by the Dewan Negara and be given the royal assent before it can be gazetted as a law.

Agriculture and Agro-Based Datuk Seri Ismail Sabri Yaakob said the aim of the Bill was to enable deterrent sentences to be handed down to offenders.
