Happy #CoralTriangleDay! The Coral Triangle is a 6 million-km2 marine area that sustains and protects more than 120 million people in coastal communities across Indonesia, the Philippines, Papua New Guinea, the Solomon Islands, Timor-Leste and Malaysia. Yet it is not spared from overfishing and pollution.

The proposed Tun Mustapha Park (TMP) in Sabah is part of the Coral Triangle. It holds four species of sea turtles, 550 fish species, 252 hard coral species, and 243 invertebrate species with new species being discovered continuously. Migratory marine mammals such as dolphins and whales also feed in the area.

The good news is the Sabah Government has announced their intention to gazette the TMP earlier this year to create Malaysia�s largest marine park! This is not only of national significance, but regional and global importance too as it is a significant marine area in the Coral Triangle.

In this photo is the Tip of Borneo, one of the majestic landscapes located at the most northern part of Borneo which is within the TMP.
