UPDATE: Bombed-Out Ukrainian Animal Rescuer is Half Way to Safety
We’ve learned that the vehicle sent to Debalzevo in Ukraine has arrived safely. That vehicle will rescue a woman who was living in only a modest summer cottage with 30 animals because her home was bombed in the war in Ukraine. There is NO HEAT and she and the animals are literally freezing. The driver was unable to take them out of there today because of more violence along their route, so they decided to hunker down for one more day and then attempt the long journey to the FRIEND shelter. FRIEND has agreed to accept all 30 animals and the woman who cares for them. All will now live at the shelter in a magnificent demonstration of the “better angels of our nature” (Abraham Lincoln)
“At our shelter we we prepared everything already for lady and animals,” Marina Bolokhovets at FRIEND shelter said. “Many animals are very sick, especially the cats. We will send the news as soon as they get here safely.”
