Not Always Safe For Motorist To Stop After Hitting Animal

SPCA, with ACRES, will be lodging an appeal against the Ministry of Home Affairs’ decision NOT to include animals like cats, monkeys, birds and rabbits under the Road Traffic Act, against the proposal of the Animal Welfare Legislation Review Committee to include the latter. This means that, under current legislation, it is not a crime if the motorist knocks down, say, a cat and drives off without rendering any assistance to the cat that has been run over.

SPCA will be working on the appeal with ACRES, and we will post an update on this when apt.

We thank all concerned members of the public for sharing their views and insights with us.
