Updates On 22nd Apr 2014

Part of our work in ACRES involves in the rehabilitation of our rescued animals from the illegal wildlife trade. This week, we

made some changes to our medium-sized male Star tortoise enclosures. We made changes to this enclosure in particular, as this group were adapting very well to the outdoor environment. They have also showed increased levels of activity. We decided to take their enclosure set-up to the next level by adding new plants that enhance their environment through color and terrain.

Together with Giovannie, our intern here at ACRES, we changed the way our tortoises explore their sanctuary every morning. We made a ramp with a new entrance to the night-dens. They can now come out into the sanctuary by themselves.

This reduces the physical handling of them.Hopefully, all this new factors will allow the tortoises to be less dependent on humans and slowly start being wild again.
