WOMAN BUILDS “BRIDGE” OF DOG BISCUITS TO REACH SHELTER DOG
Ambra Carraro volunteers at an animal shelter in Ponzano Veneto in Italy where she made a special connection with the dog no one wanted.
Poor Cornelia had been at the shelter for nearly two years, cowering in a tiny kennel and too afraid to engage with potential adopters. When Ambra came to learn about Cornelia, she tried to build a bridge. She began offering Cornelia biscuits and speaking to her softly. At first Cornelia wouldn’t even eat her biscuits until Ambra was out of sight, but over time the distance between them grew shorter. In the weeks to come, Cornelia began to eat from Ambra’s hand and to accept her as a friend.
“Although the owners of the dog-pound had said she would never walk with the lead, she learnt it fast.” said Ambra who has now adopted dear Cornelia. “She began licking me whenever she could: it was her way for kissing me. She learnt to rely on me and ignore other people. Nowadays shes adorable. She gets on very well together with my mum, who gives her a lot of biscuits. She loves me and we have been to everywhere: to the mountains, to the countryside, to the city-centre for doing shopping. When I tell her: ‘Cora, lets go out with the car’, shes so happy that she runs toward the car and jumps onto her place.”
Gosh, oh gosh, how we love a happy ending! May all the Cornelia’s in this world be so blessed. Thank you Ambra for noticing this dog who seemed all but invisible to the rest of the world.
