30 Dogs Rescued from Deserted Waste Bin in Serbia
A few days ago, we were made aware that of 30 dogs living in a metal container in the middle of nowhere in municipality of Serbia. Though it looks like a garbage dumpster, the container is apparently a “shelter” for the street dogs. The council pay for the dogs to be kept there so that they’re not on the streets. But this is no ordinary shelter. The dogs have no food, no water. The straw is soaked in urine and feces. Many are pregnant. The purebred dogs are apparently sold off but the rest are left to perish.
Following a multi-day rescue effort the dogs are now safe. The Harmony Fund has helped Serbia’s Forgotten Paws, SOS for Serbian Animals, Tierschutz Sonne and individual volunteers on this mission. Our greatest hope is that the dogs make a full recovery and find their forever homes. With the dogs safely away from this location, further auction WILL now be taken to try and ensure no more dogs suffer this way.
We deliberately left out any graphic photos of the animals’ suffering as we believe strongly in protecting the hearts and minds of our supporters. But, some of the dogs are in quite poor condition and veterinary costs could be substantial in some cases where surgery is required.
