Tony's Shelter - A Timeline Of Suffering

Tony’s shelter near Pattaya, Thailand has been the focus of a lot of attention over the past few years but appears that nothing changes. The photos in the album below give an indication as to the indications at the “shelter”.

Tony is a Pattaya business man who opened the shelter no doubt with the best intentions but has now turned into what is in effect a municipal dog dumping ground for which the local authority pay Tony 100,000 Thai Baht per month to take the dogs the city do not want. This amount of money is totally inadequate to provide even the food needed never mind proper care for the currently 1200 dogs. With no treatment or vaccinations the dogs rapidly become sick and most die in a short space of time. We understand there are just 5 very poorly paid staff to care for the dogs.

Pattaya Animal Coalition (PAC) has reported that the dogs at Tony’s shelter have no food and Soi Dog will be sending an emergency shipment of 12 tons of food costing 300,000 thai baht (over $10,000). However, this will only last for around 6 weeks.

Pattaya is Thailand’s largest holiday resort and the local authority have the means to either instigate a proper sterilisation programme or at the minimum to provide for the dogs they remove. The practice of simply removing dogs and placing them in under funded dog pounds, which is a common policy here must stop. The problem will never be solved by doing this as the removed dogs are rapidly replaced by others. Only an intensive sterilization programme as Soi Dog are doing in Phuket will solve the issue.

You can help the dogs at Tony’s by donating to help cover the costs of the urgently needed food at: www.soidog.org/en/donate-today

Tony’s Shelter in Pattaya, Thailand, confines hundreds of dogs to severely crowded pens. The dogs are not separated by age, gender, or health, leading to problems such as food competition and injuries from fighting. During routine visits to the shelter, PETA Asia inspectors documented that sick and injured animals were not given veterinary care over the course of several years. Help stop this! http://ow.ly/7wjE0
