Medical Subsidy For Percy The Kitten (Christine Lee Oi Pengs)

This is a follow-up case: http://myanimalcare.org/2013/08/21/medical-subsidy-for-percy-rescued-kitten-christine-lee-oi-pengs/

The bill is RM1529.40 and it includes 37 days’ boarding (RM370) and RM45 for Advocate (not subsidisable). Upon discussion with PetFinder.my since Christine is applying for a joint subsidy, we have agreed on funding 10 days’ boarding (which is RM100) due to the severity of the wound. Hence, the total subsidisable bill is RM1214.40.

PetFinder.my and we have agreed on a joint subsidy of 60%, which is RM728.64. Our share is therefore RM364.32 and we have banked in RM365 to Christine. This subsidy comes from the AnimalCare Donors (RM165) and Berjaya Cares (RM200).

We have earlier subsidised RM37 for Percy’s first bill:http://myanimalcare.org/2013/08/21/medical-subsidy-for-percy-rescued-kitten-christine-lee-oi-pengs/

Dear Dr Chan,

Since making the first claim from you, the stray kitten. Percy has been boarded at the vet in Puchong from 11/08/13 to 17/9/13 (37 days). In that time, the vet has been treating al the injuries on Percy, which included the broken front leg (left), the injured hind leg (left) and a broken tail.
The hind leg suffered the most damage and hence needed the most treatment. The wounds were cleaned and flushed daily. The tail is fine now. The front leg, which is now a stump, has not healed and is susceptible to bleeding because Percy would use this leg to scratch. It looks likely that this leg will have to be amputated unless I am able to find a better solution to protect the stump from constant injury.

During the first week, we were hopeful that the hind leg, which was exposed till the the bone, would heal. When it didnt, the vet said that he suspected it was because the bones, which were already broken, were moving so tissues couldnt grow.. He suggested a surgical procedure to hold the broken bones together using a metal stent. This procedure cost RM500. After the procedure, there was improvement only on one side. The wounds were still cleaned and changed daily. We were at a loss what to do next. However after another week, 2 bones came out and it slowly started to heal. When the vet felt that I could manage on my own, I brought Percy home on 17th September. To keep the costs down, I supplied the vet with Melolin low adherent absorbent pads. I am still using them daily. A box costs RM7.50 for 5 pieces.

I bring Percy to the vet once a week to check on the hind leg which has still not fully healed. Attached is the bill from 11/08/13 to 14/10/13 amounting to RM1,529.40. I have settled this bill with the vet. . Since his discharge, I have brought him back three times. It will probably take another month more to heal. We still have to consider amputation of his front stump. After this only will I consider giving him up for adoption. He can only be an indoor cat.

Regards
Christine Lee
