FALLEN SOLDIERS DOG RESCUED FROM HOUSE FIRE

Was there a guardian angel looking out for Hero this week when a house fire ignited in her home?

Six years ago, 22-year-old Army Spc. Justin Rollins and other soldiers from the 82nd Airborne division in Samarra, Iraq, found a litter of puppies. Rollins was photographed with one of them, Hero, the night before he was killed. She was the last soul he held in his arms. His family brought Hero home to New Hampshire and opened their hearts to her just as Justin had done.

When a basement fire overtook the house on Tuesday, the Rollins were not at home but a call came in to 911 and crews arrived just in time to save Hero, another dog and two cats. Firefighters said Hero was not breathing when she was carried from the house but they were able to revive her and she is expected to make a full recovery.

Very grateful that every member of the Rollins household is safe tonight.

Animal Rescue Chase

The Great Animal Rescue Chase celebrates the art of animal rescue with a worldwide race to rescue one million. It’s a free event, open to all, and is perhaps the only global animal rescue event aimed at helping any animal in distress, anywhere in the world. Our ambition is to create a culture of enthusiasm and pride in animal activism. We believe in teaching, by example, that there is a hero in each of us just waiting to be unleashed. Empowered animal lovers can not only save lives, but build the momentum for powerful animal welfare reform.
