STOMP Article About AVAs Animal Control Operation At Hougang

We have received many emails from concerned members of the public about the Hougang dog catcher incident, and are grateful to those watching out for our community animals. Its good to know that there are so many who care.

According to our guidelines for external contractors engaged to capture animals (as mentioned in AVAs official statement http://www.facebook.com/notes/agri-food-veterinary-authority-of-singapore-ava/stomp-article-about-avas-animal-control-operation-at-hougang/461912537218612), all leashes used during the capture should not be too tight and should leave space for the dog to breathe (a general guide of two fingers under the collar is recommended). Slip knots should never be used as these may cause choking and spiked ropes are definite no-nos as these would harm the animal.

It is good to know that AVA has verified with the external contractor in question and also consulted a vet to ascertain the dogs condition. We will be seeking more details from AVA regarding this incident to verify that the animals welfare was not compromised during the capture. We also hope to work closely with them to avoid the repeat of such incidents in future.

Following a STOMP article that an external contractor employed by AVA was said to be using a spiked rope in an animal control operation at Hougang, which resulted in a stray dog being injured, we have received feedback from concerned members of the public on our animal control operation…
