Happy Inside - IKEA Cats Advert

True or False: Cats are unhappy kept indoors.
F.A.L.S.E.
While some still think that cats need to run in the great outdoors to be happy, many cat lovers are now aware that indoor cats are not necessarily unhappier and are definitely safer. When we decide to bring home a cat, we take on the responsibility for their health and welfare. For those who still think that they should let their home cats roam free, here are some reasons to hopefully convince you otherwise.
1. An indoor cat is relatively safe from many diseases.
Cats who are allowed free access to the outdoors come into contact with other cats and animals. Even casual contact can transmit parasites and more serious diseases like FeLV and FIV. There is also the risk of your cat ingesting something that could make it very sick while it roams outdoors without supervision.
2. Indoor cats dont create neighbour problems.
If allowed to roam outdoors, cats may venture into neighbours homes. People who dont like cats will not tolerate cats using their flower pots as litter boxes, and will sometimes resort to extreme measures to keep the cats out.
3. Indoor cats are safe from human abuse.
Freely-roaming cats are easy targets for delinquents with time on their hands, for cat-haters who seek cats out for target practice, and for neighbours who would think nothing of harming a cat for trespassing on their property.
4. Indoor cats can get plenty of exercise.
Your cat can get the exercise it needs indoors, with interactive toys, climbing towers, scratching posts, and other indoor toys; all much safer than running from humans with ill intentions or fighting with other animals.
5. Indoor cats dont get lost.
As your cat roams outdoors, they gradually widen their outdoor territory and may eventually become lost. Why risk losing your cat?
Cats can be more than happy indoors. Its how you make the indoors fun for them that counts.
