We Have 3 New Keychain Designs!
My mother who is 80 years old, in between looking after my bed-ridden father, still finds the time to make keychains for our fundraising. She gets her materials from various stores in KL and recently, she produced three new designs…
A little girl, a blue teddy bear and a pink teddy bear!
Cute, aren’t they?
If you’d like to order:http://myanimalcare.org/gifts/
They will be on sale (by donation) at our booths too.
Just the other day, a reader told me that one of our applicants remarked that our funds come very easily. Oh gosh…does it? I wish it did! Come help my mum make these keychains or come help out at our booths where we stand from morning till evening, sometimes under the hot sun and very often, skipping all our meals. Come help me stock-check our tshirts, label each one by size, prepare stock for events, check stock after events, come up with new designs, get the designers to do it, order and reorder stock, queue at the post office to mail the online orders, do the daily accounting, reply emails and queries by the tens per day, make subsidy payments promptly, check and verify the authenticity of the applications, call up vets to verify cases, return incomplete forms and wait for resubmission, write the blogposts so that our donors and supporters know exactly how the funds are spent, source for sponsors for very needy cases that need extra funds, explain to sponsors why they are so needy, write books and get sponsors for the free distribution, give public talks, etc. Come help me do all this and THEN, tell me that the funds come easily…
If we do not do the above, believe me, we will not have any funds. And just because we pay out so many subsidies every week, it does not mean that the funds come easily. Everything is hard-earned. And we give everything back to the animals and their caregivers.
So you’ll understand how disappointed we are when applicants cheat us by doing double- or multiple- claims. Never mind if they talk behind our backs, but when they cheat us, that’s what hurts most.
I just spent the last four days gathering facts on that latest cheating case (http://myanimalcare.org/2013/03/17/another-dishonest-applicant/)because we needed sufficient evidence before we do a blacklist. When you think about it, it is such a waste of good time and energy, isn’t it? But it has to be done. As unpleasant as it is, it comes with the job.At such times, I am reminded by my spiritual teacher who said that in all charities in Malaysia, 20% of the people will be dishonest and no matter how careful you are, they will still cheat you. Never mind them. Even if they are dishonest, you would still have helped the animals. And remember that what goes around, comes around. The universe is fair.
So, never mind the few bad apples. We will not allow them to spoil the whole bunch!
To all our supporters, friends, donors and honest applicants, I am truly grateful for your goodwill in working together with us.
Thank you.
