Well miss you, Hwee Mien!

Today we say a sad farewell to Hwee Mien, affectionately known as HM by all of us; a truly dedicated staff member who has been with our team, as the AWRC Veterinarian, since 2011.

With her eye for detail and hard-working nature, she has helped many, many animals who have been rescued from all sorts of situations and with all kinds of health problems, many of whom we were not sure would pull through. It has been her determination, her hard work, and the long hours she has put in sometimes all alone inside our treatment facility beyond working hours – that has saved these animals.

Treating wild animals who come in with conditions that have not been previously reported or studied can be a real challenge, particularly with limited resources. But any time of day or night, whether on duty or not, HM has been extremely accommodating, attending to the animals and taking the necessary steps to make sure they receive the best care.

Anbu, Director of the AWRC, recalls: There have been cases that we may not always share on facebook, but at ACRES, every single life matters. Every single animal comes in with a history and a personality. Having watched HM work on the tiniest patient ever (Rex the changeable lizard, see photo) who could have easily died, it was a touching reflection of what she is capable of and her passion to help animals.

While we are very sad that she is leaving our team, we would like to thank Hwee Mien for all the amazing work she has done and wish her all the very best for the future; and of course we cant wait for her to come back to help us when she can!
