Just How Fussy Is Gerald?

I would say he’s our fussiest cat when it comes to eating.

He expects me to read his mind as to what he wants to eat.

Sometimes, it’s 100% raw chicken gizzards (he can easily eat up to four pieces of gizzards in one sitting). I’m trying to introduce some chicken breast meat together with the gizzard now and possibly, some chicken liver too.

But as much as he loves gizzards, he doesn’t want it for every meal.

He needs variety.

Very fussy for an outdoor cat, right?

And he doesn’t eat kibble. Can you believe that? He doesn’t touch kibble.

Sometimes, he wants canned food. And he doesn’t want Back2Nature; he only wants Cindy’s Original. Well, Back2Nature is a complete food, so in general (the company’s boss told me), cats prefer the “incomplete” food. I asked why. He said because the complete food has all the complete range of vitamins, minerals and nutrients, and normally this makes it less palatable than the incomplete food. To put it simply, who doesn’t like junk food, right? No junk food is a complete balanced food. Otherwise, we won’t call it “junk”. It’s an incomplete food, hence, it’s tasty!

So, Cindy’s canned food is not a complete food, that is why all our cats prefer it. But still, all our cats will still eat Back2Nature when they are not given a choice….all, except Gerald. Gerald will turn his nose up and walk away from the bowl, mewing till no end.

So, to quieten him down, I’m forced to give in to his preferences.

What a spoilt brat.

Today’s yowling was actually tolerable, and just as we were about to praise him, he has started again now, as though making up for all the reduced yowling for the whole day.

He patronises all the three litter boxes. The Blondies don’t use it anymore.

Do you need all three litter boxes, Gerald? Seriously?

Well yes, he does.

Please don’t yowl, Gerald. It’s already late at night.
