What Keeps A Vet Ticking With Energy�

I am utterly exhausted. I am running on very low sleep because of afterhours emergencies and a busy schedule full of interruptions/emergencies and one intensive hospital case… I have so many interesting topics and cases to discuss but can not right now because my brain is fried!

I am simply feeling really confused, crabby and delirious�like this premedicated kitty cat below.

One of my great and very dedicated bloggers Barb asked me how I am able to cope with the loss of a beautiful patient like Boss. Unfortunately�every vet soon learns that you can’t save every patient and you need to be prepared to endure the loss of some and thrive in the success of others. If you want to continue to succeed�as a vet, you have to look forward to a brighter tomorrow filled with hope and perseverance. You must always also find time to reflect on the patients you lost and see what you could have done better.

The secrets of how I keep myself going are my patients.

The regulars like SCAMPIEEEE, my smiling JRT that only smiles to you as a greeting. If he sees you again after he has already greeted you with a smile then that’s it. You have had your smile. What a cracker!

Or simply, four puppies crawling all over you during their 4 puppies in 1 consultation.

My ear drums suffered severely but their cuteness made up for it…

I am off to bed as I have a big day at work tomorrow. I may be doing a cystotomy�(incising�into a bladder) surgery in a golden retriever with bladder & urolith stones!

I was born overseas and grew up in Lebanon. About 9 years ago, I left my family and friends behind to pursue my dream of becoming a veterinarian in Australia.

I have now been out in practice for the past 5 years. I absolutely love being involved with all types of animals and consider it my "calling". Whilst my job can be quite an emotional rollercoaster ride, I cannot fathom doing anything else for as long as I am living. I simply feel blessed every day that I am practicing what I truly love.
