As we continue to observe the International Mountain Day, let’s celebrate Pulong Tau National Park, home to Mount Murud, the highest mountain in Sarawak 🏔️✨
At 2,424m, Mount Murud holds profound ecological and cultural importance to the environment and indigenous peoples who live nearby. Mount Murud is the habitat to some of the rarest flora and fauna in the world.
It is home to the widow slender toad or Murud black slender (Ansonia vidua), which is endemic to Sarawak and the mountain. 🐸💚 This toad is the only amphibian in Sarawak listed as Critically Endangered by IUCN. Very little is known about its distribution and population.
Let’s continue to protect this pristine Pulong Tau National Park and Mount Murud, to ensure the continuity of this rare species and other flora and fauna for generations to come.
Be responsible ecotourists – take nothing but photographs, leave nothing but footprints. 📸👣 🌍
