The Recent Euthanasia Of Terminally Ill Sendayan G..

The recent euthanasia of terminally ill Sendayan Girl has brought in so mant ignorant people hurling all kind of accusations against us. We have never seen this people here. And I bet, if we had asked them if they would be kind enough to foster Sendayan Girl until she dies – none would have offered to do so. But yet they make baseless allegations which are indicative of how ignorant they are about caring for animals. There are also confessions on how they had allowed their pets to rot and die. It was shocking. Some even asked us if we would do this to a human being and this was truly the most ignorant question ever. First a little about Sendayan Girl. She was rescued by an independant rescuer in April and we agreed to help her raise funds (btw there’s still a big amount owed to the vet) to treat Sendayan Girl. She was admitted at a Veterinary Clinic in Seremban since April and we also sponsored chemotherapy which was administered for an entire month. In spite of these new lesions and lumps started to appear and she was dull and ate very little without heavy painkillers. She was also too weak for a second bout of chemotherapy and her blood count was low. Constantly pumping her up with strong painkillers would also destroy her kidneys and liver. After conferring with the vet and finding out that there wasn’t a chance for her to recover, the difficult decision was made to end her torment. We were asked by the rescuer if we could arrange the euthanasia and pay for it as well as the subsequent cremation. We agreed. We wanted to show people that when an animal reaches this stage, it is best to put it down. We also wanted to put up a recording of the euthanasia to show how gently the animals slipped away but this was not allowed by the veterinary clinic. Here is some advice to those who are ignorant.
1. We should not humanise animals. As much as we love our pets, we must accept the fact that they are not humans and therefiore their needs are different and they cannot be expected to accept intense suffering.
2. MDDB has ethics. We would rather euthanise a dog that is suffering without any possible cure than to use it to raise funds.
3. No-kill means you do you best to save lives that can be saved regardless of the gravity of the injury which is what MDDB has been doing.
4. No-kill does not give one the license to torture animals by prolonging their suffering.
5. Our Sandy died of cancer yesterday but she had the qulaity of life until almost the very last moment and was walking around. She only suffered a little difficulty of breathing during the last few hours of her life. Sendayan Girl did not have a quality of life. She had to endure the pain of her lesions being dressed and bound-up tightly on a daily basis.
6. She was a street dog but the last five months of her live was spent caged up in a veterinary clinic.
Finally one person asked equated Sendayan Girl’s suffering with a human being and asked if we would know if a person in a simmilar situation wanted their lives to end. Let me tell you this, yes – I have met and spoken to several people who were dying and all of them told me that they wished they would be allowed to end their lives and die with dignity. Here’s the proof.
“This is precisely what terminal cancer patient Shirley Lim wants.
To her, if putting dying animals down is considered a humane act, why then isn’t a dying human not accorded the same compassion? she asks.
“Why do the sick and dying have to be subjugated to a slow and painful death even when they’ve chosen not to ‘fight’ till the end?”
The mother of two who lives in Shah Alam, has been battling ovarian cancer since 1993 and has undergone two operations and 18 courses of chemotherapy.Lim’s last operation in March indicated that the cancer had spread to her entire abdominal cavity. “- WANI MUTHAH,THE STAR, JULY 22, 1996
This is just one of them. That is why euthanasia is legal for terminally ill people in some western nations.
I would also ask these people screaming that it was cruel that we put Sendayan Girl their thoughts on the young and healthy animals that were killed because they wanted meat on their plates. Isn’t that also cruel?
