Soi dog Capricorn is a fearless road trip companion with grand plans to visit all 50 US states!

Capricorn came from a shelter in the northeast of Thailand where she and thousands of other dogs rescued from the illegal dog meat trade were housed. She was one of a number of dogs transferred to the Soi Dog shelter in the south in 2017.

After spending just a few months here, Capricorn was lucky enough to join our wonderful partner rescue The Barking Lot in the USA. As she was shy and tentative, she was placed in a loving foster home to help her blossom – and blossom she did. She went on to find a wonderful mum, Rebecca, who renamed her Kanga and sent us the following update:

“I named her Kanga because I drive a Subaru that I call the ‘Ru’, and on the day I adopted her, she jumped right in the backseat like she always belonged there.🦘Shortly thereafter, it became us against the world.

I love shooting astrophotography out in the desert or going to the beach late at night when no one else was there, and Kanga was immediately the greatest adventure partner, staying out with me until dawn more times than I can count.

Not only is she my very best friend, she became my service dog in training until I started to resolve some health issues. While she is dog-selective, I very carefully added a puppy (also adopted from the dog meat trade – in Cambodia through Four Paws International) in June 2021. Kanga took to him immediately and decided she was his mom, I named him Joey (as in, a baby kangaroo). Since then, I took 10 months off of work for us to travel and have fun after much hardship. We drove around the US to 16 different states and one province in Canada.

We’re settled in San Diego now, but in May we’re going on another long road trip to Georgia and back, at which point she will have been to 25 US states! She has the most loving little heart, and is the snuggliest girl.

Her personality is sassy and sweet with just a touch of mischief. She would sell me in a heartbeat for pho! 🍜 Her favorite things are car rides, going to the beach at night to dig in the sand, and wearing sweaters.

I literally cannot imagine my life without her. Thank you for giving me my best friend.❤”
