Surprise Gift of Rent Saves Shelter in Mexico
The Saint Vincent’s Home animal shelter based in Guadalajara, Mexico received a surprise gift from Harmony Fund in January when we helped them pay off the debt to their landlord.
“The wolves are at the front gate” Director Lawrence Smith told us last month when speaking of the significant debt his shelter had accrued. “I had enough money scrapped together to buy 30 bags of food for our 300 dogs on Thursday, just enough to get us through a couple more days. But the owner of this property is upset about the money as we owe eight months back rent.”
In order to help stabilize the situation, we paid up all the back rent for the shelter and paid February’s rent in advance. This gives the shelter an opportunity to focus on food, veterinary care and workers wages, and to hopefully get back on their feet.
“Your help with the rent is a real blessing for us during this time of need,” Lawrence said thankfully. “God bless you and your patrons for helping us this way.”
