Meet Lily Janggong from Rumah Peter, Ulu Katibas, Song. She is not only a farmer but also a skilled ‘jaga luan’ or longboat navigator in the Iban language.

One of our team members, Grace Lim, befriended Lily when travelling to Ulu Katibas recently. It was an eye-opening and exciting, yet panicky experience for Grace as her longboat had to cruise upstream on a narrow river against the strong current with boulders jutting out. But Lily calmly and expertly steered the longboat from all dangers. Thanks to ‘jaga luan’ like her, our team in Sarawak can safely travel to project sites.
