KLANG: A dog that was chained up here is believed to have struggled for almost an entire night before finally breathing its last.

A photograph and video showing the animal’s plight were posted on social media, including on the canine welfare group Malaysian Dogs Deserve Better (MDDB) Facebook page.

They depict the animal’s struggles after the chain started to tighten around its neck.

It is believed the dog had jumped out from the compound of its owner’s house in Taman Desa Jarom, Jenjarom, through the gap between the wall and iron railing.

The video shows the dog whining and crying but no one came out of the house to render any assistance.

It is believed the incident occurred on Tuesday (April 26) night.

Enraged social media users rushed to the location to free the dog, which had unfortunately died by then.

Shelly Mathews, who went to the scene from her office in Klang, said it was an upsetting development.

“I had hoped to save the dog but saw that its tongue was already slightly blue in the photo,” she said.

Accountant Sarah Wong came all the way from Seremban to rescue the dog but was told it had died soon after she had started her journey.

“I decided to go after seeing not many were coming forward to rescue the dog, just making comments.

“It was also very hard to see the dog suffer so much,” she added.

Six other people besides Mathews and Wong also tried to rescue the dog.

An MDDB volunteer who went to the area noted that the dog’s shelter was a rotting wooden box placed near the main gate of the house inside the compound.

Veterinary Services Department director-general Datuk Dr Norlizan Mohd Noor told The Star recently that members of the public can lodge reports on animal cruelty even if they were not from the place where the incident occurred, even from other states.

“Our enforcement will then be able to open an investigation paper (based on the report),” he added.
