When Parts Of Ba' Kelalan Highlands Turn Gold

Anyone who is familiar with William Wordsworth’s poem, ‘I Wandered Lonely as a Cloud’, would agree with us on how our team in Sarawak felt upon seeing acres and acres of paddy – in their most glorious form ripening and glittering like gold against their lush leaves, and fluttering gracefully with the breeze.
That was the scene in Ba’ Kelalan highlands in December before farmers harvested the paddy in January and February. The highlands, which is 150km from the town of Lawas, are part of the Heart of Borneo, an important area for sustainable land use and biodiversity conservation for the benefit of people and nature.
WWF-Malaysia with the financial support from @CIMBMalaysia Islamic Bank is working with a group of farmers in Ba’ Kelalan to cultivate the Adan rice through an organic and sustainable method called System of Rice Intensification (SRI). The method is totally free of chemical application and uses little water. Yet, it produces high yields of the famous fragrant Adan rice. Let’s support our SRI farmers in Ba’ Kelalan by giving this post a like, share it, or leave them some encouraging words in the comment section.
