Dog, In Critical Condition (Shirleys)

A lady called Shirley called me last week, asking if we could help subsidise the treatment of a rescued dog. I offered our usual subsidy and advised her to take the dog to the vet’s as soon as possible.
Subsequently, there was no photo and no news, so I thought the dog did not need any treatment, or Shirley did not need any subsidy.
Yesterday, Shirley called again saying the dog was in bad shape. It was shivering and could not be approached anymore. Shirley said she could not get the dog into the car so she asked for a vet who could make a housecalls. I gave her the contact details of several vets.
I asked for a photos of the dog (it has bad wounds), and finally, I received these photos:
After 7pm, Shirley called again, citing that the dog was in worse shape by then. I told her she could bring the dog down to the clinic in PJ which has a call-back service. Shirley then said she preferred to send the dog to her own vet in KL. I said it doesn’t matter where, our subsidy offer applies.
Again, I contacted a vet who makes housecalls and he said he would be able to attend to Shirley’s dog today, in the afternoon. I texted Shirley the hp.
Just now, Shirley called again. Apparently she had decided to send the dog to the vet in PJ, and she said they had to wait. I told her we all have to wait at any vet’s but if she is unhappy with the waiting, she might as well send the dog down to her own vet in KL and not waste precious time. I also forwarded to her again, the contacts of the housecall vets.
Shirley decided to stay with the vet in PJ, and finally, the dog was attended to.
Shirley told me the vet said the dog was in bad shape. An X-Ray will be taken to determine if there is any internal injury and the dog will be put on drips and medication. Apparently, the dog could not stand up anymore. She also said the if the dog does not respond in 3 days, the vet has advised her to have the dog euthanised.
I told Shirley that we will only subsidise efforts made to HELP the dog recover and live on, but not the cost of euthanasia. Our subsidy is only for supporting life, not death.
I also explained to Shirley that she might wish to try acupuncture to help complement the current treatment. However, Shirley said she preferred to go by the vet’s treatment, and only if nothing works in 3 days, would she opt for acupuncture. I told her it might be too late by then because we usually do not delay in serious cases. Acupuncture works by opening up the energy channels so that the qi can flow and allow the body to heal itself. It usually does not clash with western veterinary treatment. Rather, it complements. But Shirley decided that’s what she preferred, so it’s her call as this is her rescue.
We can only offer advice and financial help.
I finally spoke to the vet in attendance as well. Apparently, the dog appears to be in bad shape, either it is very weak due to malnutrition or some internal injury had been left unattended. The funny thing is that Shirley said the dog was fine until yesterday. But his condition today does not seem to indicate so. The vet said the dog will be put on drips and given steroids. I also asked the vet if the clinic would be ok for Dr Susanna to come in to do acupuncture, and he said yes.
So, now, it is Shirley’s call. I have told her that we will subsidise the acupuncture treatments as well as the veterinarian treatment for the dog as long as they are aimed at healing the dog and supporting its life.
We pray the dog will respond to the drip and steroids, and will recover.
