Rivers are the veins of the Earth, transporting water and nutrients that are vital to the ecosystem and, more importantly, our lives. For far too long, we have been treating our rivers like rubbish dumps. π However, what we throw into our rivers ends up in our ocean.
According to a new study, more than 1,000 rivers are accountable for 80% of plastic waste found in the ocean. Whatβs more surprising is that Klang river is listed as the top 10 contributors, in the whole world. π€
Our plastic waste is choking our rivers and oceans. Let us not be the cause of this. Do not let our Malaysian rivers be infamous for one of the main causes of plastic waste leakage into the ocean. Together, we can make a difference. π
