Our Saturdayshoutout Goes To Zepellin Who Came To ..

Our #SaturdayShoutout goes to Zepellin who came to Soi Dog back in 2013. The reason we had to rescue him was because someone tied a rope around his scrotum in an attempt to ‘castrate’ him.
Fast forward two plus years after that gruesome act, Zepellin found a home in Canada with Tonja.
Tonja recently shared an account of what it was like to have Zepellin in her life and how their relationship blossomed. #furrytailending
Here’s an honest yet warm hearted story of how adopters bond with their Soi Dog rescues and a perfect example of how long lasting relationship with rescue dogs takes time, especially with street dogs who have also faced cruel pasts.
“I adopted Zepellin in the summer of 2016. He had been a street dog for approximately 2 years and was taken to Soi Dog after being abused and in need of medical attention. He stayed at the Soi Dog Foundation for another 2 and a half years.
I was nervous, but excited about adopting a dog unseen. My family was apprehensive about my decision especially as he would be my first dog. I picked Zepellin up at the airport and took him home. For the next few weeks, I thought I had made a terrible mistake. He was fine with me but was aggressive with my brother’s dog, he tried to attack my sister, and in general he was not good with people.
I had signed us up for obedience training before I brought Zepellin home and we started in the second week he was in Canada. Through this training, I learned that Zepellin was a scared little boy who didn’t know who he could trust and was constantly worried that others would hurt him. He saw other dogs as threats or competition and he felt he needed to be aggressive to make them leave him alone.
Over the coming months, with hard work, patience, and love, Zepellin changed. He started to trust. By Christmas, he was cuddling with my siblings and had a new best friend in my brother’s dog. As we continued our obedience training and eventually moved on to agility training, his confidence grew even more. Zepellin came out of his shell and started to trust strangers, going up to people on the street and asking for pets. Now, almost 5 years later, despite my initial doubts and regrets, I would not change a thing. Zepellin has been an amazing addition to my life, and my family absolutely adores him. I swear they are more excited to see him walk through the door than they are to see me.
Zepellin is not perfect, and he never will be. He had a trying start to life that cannot be changed. Those scars will remain with him always. With all that said, Zepellin has overcome so much and continues to impress me daily. He is a goofy, loving dog who adds life and energy to everything he
does.
Through love, patience, and training, these dogs have so much to offer and will change your life for the better.”
🧡🧡🧡
We Thank Tonja and her family for sticking by Zepellin, who needed them more than they knew. That’s what true love is all about.
It’s not about looking for perfection, it’s about accepting and improving the best of what they have.
