Updates from Soi Dog’s mobile clinics in Bangkok❗
With over 90% of Phuket’s stray dog population sterilised, our CNVR (Catch I Neuter I Vaccinate I Return) programme is now operating in various other locations around Thailand.
Our biggest CNVR project is in Bangkok where six mobile teams – consisting of nine staff each, including vets, vet support staff and animal rescue officers – aim to achieve the same results as in Phuket. Although it takes time to see these results, neutering is the most effective and humane method of solving the stray dog and cat population crisis. https://links.soidog.org/soidog-spayandneuter-programme
As part of our CNVR projects, our officers follow Dogs Trust guidelines on welfare-friendly catching, with key elements including knowledge of: the environment and area; canine body language; safety and local knowledge; transportation; team communication; and handling techniques and equipment.
Safety is paramount for both staff and animal. Often, feral dogs will hide in bushes, under abandoned buildings and at landfill sites, away from populated areas. Therefore, an in-depth knowledge of the dog’s environment and habits, combined with practical skills, must be carefully applied.
The number of animals saved from a life of suffering on the streets thanks to CNVR is incalculable. However, there is so much more work to be done. More space is required to shelter those that have been injured, and medically trained professionals are needed to care for them.
