How Did The Terrapin Get Its Name?

After the female river terrapin lays her eggs, she lifts her body, and then drops it, in order to compact the sand underneath. This repetitive process produces the “tung-tung” sound. Hence, it is called the “tuntung” in Malay.

母河龟下完所有的蛋后,会用身体上下拍打沙土,让沙土可以更密集。这个举动发出了”tung-tung”的声音。就是因为这样,它们有了”tuntung”这个名字。
