🐢 Batagur baska vs. Batagur affinis – Can you tell them apart? 🤔

Our terrapin nesting season has just started, so we’re taking this opportunity to highlight the two species that were—up to recently—thought to be conspecific, i.e. the Northern and the Southern River Terrapins.

Unfortunately, these river terrapins are facing serious man-made threats, such as poaching and habitat loss. That is why we are actively working to protect the Southern River Terrapin (Batagur affinis) population in Kemaman, Terengganu through research and a long-term community-based conservation project, education and public awareness campaigns.
