🐢🌱 Making Waves for Turtles: Save Penny and Friends Day 🌊🐢

On 30 November 2024, Zarra Amani, one of our Top 5 finalists from the Suara Bumi programme, led the impactful Save Penny and Friends Day! 🌏✨

This initiative brought together Marine Engineering students and Rakan Muda Environment to raise awareness and inspire action for turtle conservation in Perak.

Here is how Zarra and her team made a difference:

🌴 Visit to Kampung Penyu Sanctuary

Students learned about the unique habitat of turtles on Pangkor Island and the importance of preserving it.

📚 Talk by a Turtle Conservationist

A local expert shared valuable insights into the challenges faced by turtles and how communities can help.

🌱 Tree Planting & Seedling Potting

Participants worked to stabilise nesting ground temperatures by planting trees, ensuring safer habitats for turtles.

🗑️ Beach Cleanup

The team tackled marine debris and plastic waste, reducing threats to turtles and promoting cleaner coasts.

“Suara Bumi” is a collaboration between Persatuan Pandu Puteri Malaysia (Girl Guides Association Malaysia) (Pandu Puteri Malaysia Cawangan Perak) and Roots & Shoots Malaysia, which has harnessed the passion of youths to become Ambassadors for local biodiversity through awareness campaigns and action-based solutions.

This impactful activity was a success, thanks to the support of Yayasan Hasanah and Kementerian Kewangan, in collaboration with The Habitat Foundation

Also, a big thank you to Pn. Azura, Kampung Penyu Pulau Pangkor, Dr. Agkillah Maniam and everyone who attended and supported this initiative!
